A graduate from Institute of Business Administration (IBA), Shehryar, knows the right tricks to be in the showbiz business. With superb acting prowess he can surely give all our leading showbiz men a run for their money.
How did you enter into showbiz?
I used to participate in extra curriculum activities since my school days. During my graduation I did a theatre play. When my aunt Sultana Siddiqui saw my performances, she really liked it and asked me to work with her. I promised her to work in her next projects. Meanwhile, I was doing some modelling assignments along with my studies. When I again met her at a family function in Dubai she reminded me of my promise and asked me to do a supporting role in Zindagi Gulzar Hai. I accepted her offer and that was how it all started.
But wasn’t Meray Dard Ko Jo Zuban Milay your debut play on television?
No, it was not so. The shooting of Zindagi Gulzar Hai was completed almost one and a half year ago but it did not go on-air. When Adnan Ahmed, director of Meray Dard Ko Zuban Milay, watched dallies of Zindagi Gulzar Hai, he offered a role of a deaf and dumb boy in his serial.
Your character in Meray Dard Ko Jo Zuban Milay was highly praised by everyone. Did you do any home work for it?
Yes, the director had arranged a teacher for me. I also visited some schools where I met deaf and dumb kids. By closely monitoring them I came to know that they use their eye movements to convey message. So, I did the same in my play and everyone liked it.
I have heard that you don’t have long term plans to stay in media?
I got two of my initial plays during my university days and when they went on-air I had already joined a multinational firm. After the success of these two plays, offers started pouring in and I asked my parents, who are very pro-education, to let me work in showbiz for some time and then I will go abroad to complete my higher education.
Wouldn’t be difficult for you to leave the stardom when you have achieved so much fame?
It is a blessing that I got fame at the onset of my career and I am not leaving showbiz for good. I will keep on doing different projects whenever I will come on my holidays.
What are other projects that you are working on?
Right now, I am just concentrating on my movie, where I am playing the lead character.
Has someone told you before that you have got that Hrithik Roshan looks?
I really do not know what actually those looks are! (Laughs) Some people do say that I resemble him but I believe that he is really a super star. Personally, I never try to copy anyone and try to build up my own identity with my good work.
You have so far played very light roles, would you mind doing a negative character?
Rather than doing a negative character I would love to do a character which is near to real life.
What are your career goals?
I am a very idealistic and patriotic person with big goals in mind. I want to work for the welfare of people in whatever capacity I can. I don’t know how I will do it, may be I use my fame to do any charity work for masses, or I will do it through my education. It might be possible that I will join politics to work for my people.
How serious are you in joining politics?
I am very serious. I love my country and to make it a favorable place to live I will try to change the system by being a part of it.
